Common questions
How is this different from a full substitute binder?
A binder is a multi-page system covering seating charts, lesson plans, and school-wide procedures — thorough but rarely read in full by a substitute. This is a single at-a-glance sheet covering only the four things a substitute needs in the first 60 seconds: schedule, routines, medical alerts, and contacts. Use it as the front page of a binder if you keep one, or as a standalone.
Do I need to fill it out every time I’m absent?
No. Fill in the static fields — schedule, routines, medical alerts, contacts — once per semester. Before each absence you only need to update the date and the "most important thing for today" box, which takes about two minutes.
Is this template really free, no signup required?
Yes. The download button above links directly to the PDF — no email capture, no account creation, no watermark. Print as many copies as you need.
Can I laminate it and reuse it?
Yes — many teachers laminate the static portion (schedule, routines, contacts) and use a dry-erase marker for the date-specific fields each time, which works well if your period structure rarely changes.
